Meet the Team - The Committee

    Matt Lee - Chairman & Lead Welfare Officer

    As Chairman, Matt provides strategic leadership and overall direction for the club. He chairs committee meetings, sets agendas, and ensures that decisions are made effectively and in the best interests of the membership. Acting as the club’s principal representative at external events and with partner organisations, he helps build strong relationships within the wider running community. Matt also ensures that all activities, initiatives, and policies reflect the club’s values and long-term objectives, fostering a positive, inclusive, and well-organised environment in which all runners can thrive.

    In addition to being Chairman, Matt is also our Lead Welfare Officer, ensuring the club provides a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for all members. Concerns are handled confidentially, and he will also be able to advise the committee and coaches on welfare matters, and help ensure appropriate training and checks are in place.

    Laura Spargo - Secretary & DBS Verifier

    Laura is our Club Secretary and is central to the smooth operation of the club. She manages all official correspondence, prepares and circulates accurate minutes from committee meetings, and ensures timely communication with members about events, updates, and key announcements. By coordinating administrative tasks and maintaining clear records, Laura helps keep the club organised, connected, and running efficiently.

    Laura also ensures that all of our coaches and volunteers have the appropriate background checks. She verifies applicants’ identities, submits DBS applications, and helps maintain the club’s safeguarding standards, protecting members and ensuring compliance with legal and governing body requirements.

    Hannah Spires - Treasurer

    As Treasurer, Hannah is responsible for the overall financial management of the club. She oversees budgeting, monitors income and expenditure, and ensures that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported. Hannah manages membership income and event-related costs, supports fundraising activities, and helps the committee make informed decisions by providing clear financial updates. She also ensures transparency and accountability in all financial matters, while working to maintain the club’s financial stability and support its events, development, and future growth.

    Ryan Perring - Welfare Officer & Web Manager

    Ryan is one of our trained Welfare Officers. He plays an important role in maintaining a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment by overseeing, reporting, and responding to safeguarding concerns involving adults and vulnerable members at risk. As a main point of contact for welfare matters, he helps put club policies into practice and supports the safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment of all members.

    As the designer and architect of our website, Ryan also leads its ongoing development and management. He ensures the site remains accurate, secure, and user-focused, while keeping content current and functionality running smoothly to provide a professional and engaging experience for all visitors.

    Tami Hearn - Membership Secretary & Welfare Officer

    As Membership Secretary, Tami serves as the primary contact for both current and prospective members. She oversees the membership database, keeps contact information accurate and up to date, ensures GDPR compliance, and manages renewals and related fees.

    Tami is also one of our trained Welfare Officers. She helps ensure the club remains a safe, inclusive, and positive environment by managing, reporting, and responding to safeguarding concerns involving adults and vulnerable members at risk. As a key point of contact for welfare matters, she supports the implementation of club policies and works to protect members’ safety, wellbeing, and enjoyment.

    Ken Perring - Social Secretary & Kit Manager

    As Social Secretary, Ken helps create a friendly and inclusive club atmosphere by organising a variety of social events, from informal post run meet-ups to larger celebrations. Working with the committee, he’ll promote events, encourage participation, and support a strong sense of community alongside the club’s running activities.

    As WRC continues to grow and move into formal affiliation, Ken has taken on the role of Kit Manager. In this capacity, he oversees supplier relationships, coordinates and consolidates orders, and manages the distribution of club kit once production is complete, ensuring a smooth and professional process from start to finish.
